Why use baryta photo paper?

The black and white baryta photo paper is considered as the top of the range of photo paper. Made on a 180g cardboard support, the silver photo emulsion coated on the paper fibers takes relief.

Richer in silver than RC photo paper, the density of blacks is deeper, which also gives a greater impression of relief.

Baryta photo paper is available in several surfaces. The glossy photo paper is the one that will have the densest blacks, but also the sharpest contrasts. Softer, the semi-glossy photo paper has medium blacks, but its surface is devoid of gloss, which avoids reflections. Finally, the semi-matt paper is the most delicate because its blacks are the least intense. Its surface has an unequalled velvetiness.

Warm tone photo paper or neutral tone photo paper?

The baryta photo paper is offered in three tones: cold, neutral and warm.

Cooltone photo paper

There is only one reference on the market, Ilford Multigrade Cooltone, whose tone is cooled by the addition of optical brighteners. This gives it an almost bluish tone.

Neutral tone paper

It is the great standard, with neutral blacks. There are two references Ilford Multigrade Classic and BERGGER Prestige Variable NB.

Warm tone paper

Much more detailed in the shadows, these warm tone barite papers are considered the best. They can range from slightly warm to very warm depending on the photo chemistry used, and they can be coated on a slightly ivory base, which is the case with the beautiful BERGGER Prestige Variable CB Style paper.
